" More on the event lead The event will be led, at the beginning at least, by local Gravesend programmer Oli Donald. He intends to respond to the prompts but this year in a public space and invites anyone else, even vaguely interested to join him. Event Information These events are free and come and go as you please. We intend to host this every other day in different locations around Gravesend. You may need a computer of some type if you wish to participate, but where possible Fourth Portal will have some Macs available. No understanding of coding is required. You are welcome to join in, ask questions or just watch. There is no formal training taking place, this is just a fun and enjoyable event - although you will probably learn loads! We will not know the prompts either until the 1st November and then will seek to find matching locations - might be fun! ___ Even more information ___ The official prompt list was released on the 1st November 2024. Nodevember is all about procedural awesomeness! Nodevember is a yearly challenge during the month of November, to improve and show off your procedural skills. Each year we release a list of prompts to inspire your node-based creations throughout the month. Anything procedural is welcome. If you can call it nodes, you can call it Nodevember!" • SS Richard Montgomery Screening

A special screening of 3D drone footage of the SS Richard Montgomery Medway shipwreck and how the Port of London Authority identify other wreaks in the Thames and estuary. SS Richard Montgomery Screening < Back 3 December 2023 A special screening of 3D drone footage of the SS Richard Montgomery Medway shipwreck and how the Port of London Authority identify other wreaks in the Thames and estuary. Previous Next Port of London Authority Hyrdrogeograher, Cullen O Donnell presented 3D drone visualisation of the Medway shipwreck, SS Richard Montgomery, on the Fourth Portal Lab's big screen. Cullen discussed shipwrecks in the Thames and how the footage of the wreck was gathered and manipulated. Thia was a one-off occassion and was accompanied by Joe Whittaker of DAZZLE and Ship's Company singing some sea-shanties in keeping with the Thames and shipwrecks. More on the SS Richard Montgomery, from New Scientist Magazine. "Three masts sticking up above the waves near the coastal town of Sheerness in the UK mark the spot where a deadly wreck has been rusting for almost 80 years. They belong to the SS Richard Montgomery, a US second world war-era ship that ran aground in August 1944 with a cargo of bombs. The half-submerged wreck, just 2 kilometres from land, still has 1400 tonnes of TNT in its holds." [read on here...] (New Scientist, By Mick Hamer, 14 January 2022). • Joe Cleary | FourthPortal

< Back Joe Cleary Local-born and bred Joe Cleary is one-half of Hypermedia events who run monthly events within the Fourth Portal since August 2023. I first discovered the Fourth Portal in July 2023 from a friend of mine Harriet; she had been coming in since very close to the opening date, I believe. Q1: How and when did you first discover the Fourth Portal? I first discovered the Fourth Portal in July 2023 from a friend of mine Harriet; she had been coming in since very close to the opening date, I believe. Q2: What were your initial impressions? I was captivated from the off - if I'm being totally honest. Everywhere you look for longer than a couple of seconds, you find something new to interest you that all seem to amalgamate into one fluid entity. It's a must-have for Gravesend and Kent alike. Q3: How has Fourth Portal inspired you? The Fourth Portal has bridged the gap between my "imposter" syndrome and my ADHD and gave me the confidence and as equally important, the facility and encouragement to pursue my passions, which otherwise would remain an echo chamber in my head. It's been a very vital tool in allowing me to give myself a fair chance and level the playing field. Q4: Will the inspiration be of benefit in the future? The inspiration is not only of an emotional and support benefit for someone like myself, but it is also shaping up to be a major contribution to the event me and co-founder, Harriet run here one Wednesday a month, which is a complete bi-product of us just coming here to chill out and take in our surroundings. Q5: (optional) Anything you wish to add? I would like to thank Harriet, John, Lauren and all the people behind the scenes for the work they put in. I would also like to thank everyone who has attended hypermedia in any format and Harriet for all she does. Previous Next
