Inspiring

To add your inspiration by answer the easy questions below.

Fourthportal is just an encouraging space. Having monthly events like Hypermedia really gets me to make at least one musical piece a month, especially when I'm in a bit of a drought. It's a place that is easy to look forward to going to. It really does feel like a small community of people.

Harriet Hammond

Local born and bred Harriet Hammond began coming into the Fourth Portal in the early summer of 2023 and was soon developing the Hypermedia event series along with co-founder Joe Clarey.
The paper exhibition was a brilliant way to get me back into making my collage work.

Jane Sherwood

Jane Sherwood is a Kent artist who paints in mixed media, creates collage with vintage materials and makes handmade books.
The Fourth Portal has bridged the gap between my "imposter" syndrome and my ADHD and gave me the confidence and as equally important, the facility and encouragement to pursue my passions, which otherwise would remain an echo chamber in my head. It's been a very vital tool in allowing me to give myself a fair chance and level the playing field.

Joe Cleary

Local-born and bred Joe Cleary is one-half of Hypermedia events who run monthly events within the Fourth Portal since August 2023.

Kizito and PNG Collective

Gravesend born and raised Civil Engineer Kizito, discovered the Fourth Portal while parking his car. He immediately embraced the space and soon, along with former university classmates, had their first live performance, leading to the launch of their first album.
I have been inspired to value the Fourth Portal as a comfortable space where I can meet people of diverse background, ethnicity, religion etc. with the facility to discuss ideas supported by the knowledge that it is a safe space. With the facility to explore my artistic attributes anew and become aware of new technologies and materials. The use of which has the potential to reinvigorate the community of Gravesend.

Tony Thorley

Anthony John Thorley. Brought up and lived until 1996 in Northfleet/ Gravesend. Retired papermaker and care assistant. Aged 83 years. Married to Rita for 54years. Resident in Sittingbourne Kent.
St Andrews emanates positive energy- enhanced by the continually evolving website-and the constant flow of creative visitors.

This suggested to the writer the use of black biro- rather then the revered black ink- freedom from 90 degree paper corners as the paper was slightly off key, and by folding the sheet beforehand, freedom too from the flat surface.(Why not retrieve charcoal from a riverside barbecue, and draw on a greasy crumpled paper bag..indeed!) St Andrews presents an alternative to formal exhibitions, with refreshing insights into ways of making art.
